HP has announced the addition of the Transcend 16 model to its Omen gaming laptop lineup, featuring a thinner and lighter design compared to its predecessors. Notably, this new model also marks HP’s first Omen laptop to offer a mini-LED screen option.
The Omen Transcend 16 is equipped with the latest Intel i9-13900HX processor, which features an impressive 24 cores and 32 threads with a clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz. Additionally, an i7 model will be released at a later date, though HP has not yet disclosed its specifications. The maximum RAM capacity for the device is 32 GB DDR5-5600, and it includes a single M.2 slot that can support up to a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. However, due to the thinner chassis, the device is only capable of accommodating an RTX 4070 mobile GPU with 130 W TGP, though budget-friendly options such as the RTX 4060 and 4050 are also available.
In terms of display options, the 16-inch mini-LED screen comes with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, maximum brightness of 1180 nit, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. Additionally, the device also includes an IPS panel with a resolution of 1600p and a refresh rate of 240 Hz, as well as a budget-friendly FHD+ option with a refresh rate of 165 Hz.
Port selection includes 2 Thunderbolt 4 connectors, 1 USB-A 3.2 for data transfer, 1 USB-A 3.2 with charging capabilities, HDMI 2.1 video output, and a combo audio jack. The device also includes an Intel Wi-Fi 6E card with Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless connectivity. Some product images also reveal additional ports on the back, such as an Ethernet jack and two USB-A ports. Additionally, a miniSD card reader can be seen in images that highlight the device’s slim design.
The Transcend 16’s weight of 2.1 kg (4.6 lbs) makes it one of the lightest 16-inch gaming laptops available, although the exact dimensions of the chassis are not provided. The device is available in Shadow Black and Ceramic White color options and includes a 97 Wh battery for more powerful components, with a 70 Wh option also available for lower specifications.
The Transcend 16 is expected to be available in early spring, which is likely to be in April, with prices starting at US$1,669.99. It is worth noting that the official product page mentions “transcend-intel” in its URL, suggesting that AMD-based models may be released in the future.
