Upgrading your IBEDC prepaid meter holds significant importance due to the implementation of the Token Identifier (TID) system, which prevents the reutilization of meter tokens. A pivotal event, known as the TID Rollover, is scheduled for November 24th, 2024, wherein the TID within each freshly generated token will reset to zero.
Consequently, any tokens produced post this rollover will be deemed invalid by your prepaid meter, rendering them unusable for electricity purchase and consumption. To ensure continued access to electricity services, it is imperative that all IBEDC prepaid meters undergo a key change and memory reset before the approaching November 24th deadline.
How to Upgrade IBEDC Prepaid Meter Online
Upgrading your IBEDC prepaid meter online can be done in a few easy steps. This process involves the utilization of your meter number and Key Change Tokens (KCTs).
- Step 1: Visit https://tidrollover.ibedc.com/kctupgrade
- Step 2: Enter your meter number in the space provided and click “Get KCT”
- Step 3: Type into your meter the KCT 1 given
- Step 4: Type into your meter the KCT 2 given

How to Upgrade Your IBEDC Prepaid Meter using KCT (Key Change tokens)
To upgrade your IBEDC prepaid meter using the Key Change Token (KCT) method, follow these steps.
Firstly, upon purchasing electricity tokens, you’ll receive three sets of 20-digits tokens, with the first two being key change tokens (KCT1 & KCT2), and the third token representing the electricity you’ve bought.
To begin the upgrade, input the two key change tokens sequentially into your meter, followed by the last set of 20-digits token which is your electricity token. This process completes the prepaid meter upgrade.
It’s important to note that all unused electricity tokens must be loaded before upgrading the meter and this upgrade process will not impact your current electricity tariff rate, ensuring a seamless transition to the enhanced metering system.

IBEDC has recently announced a crucial initiative involving the retrieval of select prepaid meters for essential software upgrades. This upgrade pertains to prepaid meters identified by specific Meter Numbers, including those starting with 62417.., 62418.., and some beginning with 6321.
In this process, dedicated IBEDC field staff members will conduct physical visits to the residences of affected customers to facilitate the retrieval of the identified meters.
It’s essential to note that this retrieval service is completely free, and once the software upgrade is completed, the meter will be promptly returned to the customer. It’s important to reassure customers that any existing credit on the meter will remain intact and unaffected.
This retrieval process is exclusively applicable to properly functioning prepaid meters. During the period of meter retrieval, customers will temporarily transition to a postpaid arrangement, with energy consumption during this time being accounted for as a debt that will be reconciled once the meter is reinstalled.
